WHAT ARE D‑RECs?
The D-REC label is a high-impact verification label for electricity produced by Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) in emerging and underserved markets.
It is authorized through the d-rec platform and applied to I-REC(E) following a dual-qualification process. Projects must meet both verification criteria (for energy attributes) and impact qualification (for non-energy sustainability attributes).
The D-REC Label is built on two layers of qualification:
Verification Criteria
Confirms the energy is clean, measurable, and eligible for issuance.
Impact Criteria
Recognizes projects that deliver social and environmental benefits beyond energy.
The label ensures that the underlying electricity generation is eligible, verified, and supported by documented co-benefits, enabling differentiated positioning in global environmental markets.

Why D-RECs Exist
Traditional energy attribute systems often overlook DRE projects — especially in geographies where clean energy replaces polluting or non-existent supply. These projects hold immense social and climate value, but they need a mechanism to prove it.
D-RECs fill that gap. Through a dual-layer process of verification and attestation, they bring visibility, trust, and investment to high-impact DRE.
What Makes D-RECs Different
- Designed for DRE projects in high-need geographies
- Built on open-source infrastructure aligned to global standards
- Recognize both environmental and socio-economic co-benefits
- Enable buyers and funders to support clean energy with confidence
