WHAT ARE D‑RECs?
A D-REC is an Energy Attribute Certificate (EAC), commonly known as Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), that certifies the generation of distributed renewable energy.
The D-REC Initative has designed and created its own open-source automated monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) platform. The platform will allow distributed renewable energy (DRE) assets to automativally submit meter generation data via an API, which will then be aggregated together and issued as a verified and tradeable D-REC.
Harnessing the power of automation, the D-REC platform will allow DRE assets to participate in environmental markets for the first time, and to therefore connect with multinational corporations who require renewable energy certificates to reduce their emissions.
How DOEs it WORK?
Using the electricity generated by small-scale distributed renewable energy assets, the D-REC digital MRV platform tracks, verifies and packages this electricity into a certificate that can then be sold to corporations around the world and monetized. By capturing the benefits associated with this distributed renewable energy, D-REC is helping create a global marketplace for renewable energy project developers, corporations, and climate investors.
The image below shows an example from the platform for a single device group, a collection of solar home systems deployed by Engie Energy Access in Benin.
How are d-recs issued?
Our technology
Each D-REC is unique
Its collective attribute values provide a unique signature and no two certificates can refer to the same particular event.
Each D-REC corresponds to 1 MWh
A D-REC is issued against the aggregate generation of individual devices.
Each D-REC is verified
Each D-REC is issued in accordance with verified historical facts relating to a particular event over a period of time for a specific device, and cannot be issued for future events.
Clear chain of custody
Each D-REC has a clear chain of custody from producer to end-user.
